"He describes his blog as a “creative fusion of real estate and officiating” which puts him on my permanent Christmas list. :-) He prides himself on calling ‘em like he sees ‘em."

I never trust the standard market reports from my local MLS. I mine the data and present it in my fashion because I have more confidence in it. Yes, this means heading to the office early or staying late to produce the reports I post. But it is worth it and I use the data in my presentations with both buyers and sellers.

I'm a bit nervous at the moment though because we are launching a new MLS database this week (actually tomorrow!!). I'm wondering if data sets will be the same and if they aren't how will it mess up my data (or how much longer am I going to have to mine the data to be representative of the data I have been using).

For anyone that is surprised by Members of organizations calling out mistakes made by the organization one belongs to, please don't be. We are not all in cahoots to undermine the planet. In fact barely any of us are. Most of us don't even realize that everyday people and would be clients even give a darn or are looking for accurate data in the first place. Those Members that match that description will be the first to go bye-bye in this industry.

Waldo and Athol-- Thanks for checking in!

Waldo-- 1) I use REALTOR because it is a trademark, and NAR has fought really hard to protect it. I don't need them giving me flack one day. I guess that is a product of the value I place on accuracy (sometimes to a fault). 2) I am NEVER loathe to criticize CAAR. I don't do it too awful much on this blog, except when I think it is of interest to the general readership (as in this case). If you followed me around for a week, you would find that such criticism has almost become a hobby; although getting such criticism heard and reasonably considered can be a sisyphean challenge.

Athol-- Your blog looks cool. I added it to the blog roll. Welcome, and keep coming back!

I hate to go off topic here, but I clicked on the link to Pravda and Paris Hilton's pot laced teddy bear was on the front page....

And yeah, well spotted with the nonsense stats. I think it was Winston Churchill that said there were "Lies, damn lies, and statistics".

Seeing there was twice as many houses on the market this year as last year, were they claiming a year ago that the inventory would only last 3.15 months?

Hmmm.

I had assumed that anybody who writes "REALTOR" in all caps (coming one step short of the cardinally-annoying sin of REALTOR(r)) would be loathe to criticize CAAR or, in fact, say anything less-than-glowing about the local market. You have proven me completely and utterly wrong. This blog entry made for a thoroughly enjoyable read. Thanks!
