Rob Hahn is an incredibly smart guy. More than just smart, he is very sharp. He wrote an excellent post about the Gary Vaynerchuk keynote presentation given during Inman Connect NYC ’09. That post, and the comments that it generated, are well worth your time.
I started to write a long comment, but I ran out of time. I thought that it might be better if I just came up with a response of my own. The video below is my response to some of the issues that Rob raises. My response ended up being a little longer than I intended, but I would love for you to consider it (along with Rob’s original points), and add your own opinions to the discussion:

Your points are well founded. I agree with you as the new wears off, it’s the thinkers like you and ROB and Gary that are coming to the table that will be the ones to push this media in the right direction for Realtors.
Community should be build around something specific…a city, a subdivision, a country club, whatever. It would be difficult to build a community around past clients that they would all want to interact since they’ll have little in common potentially other than working with one agent.
I guess about the long tail I see companies already doing that, you have commercial and residential. Where I think there needs to be more focus is on REO, Short Sales, etc. I think companies should form distressed sale departments. I think you’ll have a tough time, as you stated, convincing any broker to have agents just focus on one thing unless….you flip the brokerage model on its head and potentially go to a salaried based system.
I think that does have merits though. I’ve long said, going to a salaried based Realtor would improve quality, production, etc. But as you stated, who is going to have the strength to try it?
